Starting in 2009, cars sold or registered in New York State must cut carbon dioxide emissions.  That’s Republican Gov. George Pataki for you willing to take a stand against the Bush Administration over steps to cut greenhouse gases.

In addition, Pataki is considering a run for president. So in May proposed the regulation to cut greenhouse gases from cars. California passed similar rules about a year ago to curb emissions most scientists believe are leading to global climate change.

As the NYTimes reports> George E. Pataki served three terms as governor of New York.  Thereby winning office as a fiscal conservative who was considered a moderate on social issues.  As well as earning strong support among environmental advocates. So like Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, he has cited his stewardship of a traditionally Democratic state as evidence of his bipartisan appeal.

If you live in New York state and need to replace a catalytic converter.  However if have been put off by the price, it would be best not to wait much longer. That’s because a new law, which will take effect on December 31.  One that states that all catalytic converters sold at auto parts stores or installed in New York state repair shops, as of that date, must meet the California CARB standard for emissions.
