Since Bush has engaged in admitting oil is an issue, Nigeria has been in unrest (recent price spikes); China and Venezuela have secured an oil deal (where is the President of China right now?) and hybrids keep getting sold sold sold……….

  1. Seth,Nice work. Although it seems like you are alone out there, the movement is growing. I converted a VW bug to electric drive in 1992 on a shoestring budget, but it was one of the greatest things in my life. I have since recycled the vehicle to a local highschool technical center. At the time, people thought I was nuts, spending my time, energy and money on such a project. I figured that if I contributed to one person thinking, “Hey, what a neat idea!” I had done my job.Another EV project is still in operation after 10 years: A Solar EV charging station complete with a commercial coversion of a Ford Escort. Things can happen, one person at a time.

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
