## **Maxwell Technologies**

Let’s talk Maxwell Technologies ultra-capacitors. For Maxwell Technologies Inc.
just announced that its BOOSTCAP® ultra-capacitor products have been certified.
Not just from anyone either. But by the official testing agency of the People’s
Republic of China. This is for energy storage applications in vehicles.

This is a certification protocol included testing for electrical, mechanical, thermal,
safety and also lifetime performance.

David Schramm, Maxwell’s President and CEO, said that the certification clears the
way for Maxwell Technologies to market its BOOSTCAP® ultracapacitor products to
any manufacturer producing autos, trucks, buses or rail vehicles for the rapidly
growing [Chinese](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/08/merkel-seeks-solar-talks-preventing-anti-dumping-chinese-european-biz/)
market.

### BOOSTCAP Ultracapacitors

In addition, Schramm added their BOOSTCAP products are the only ultra-capacitors
to have received this mandatory certification. All for transportation applications.
They have already supplied BOOSTCAP products. That’s to several electric and hybrid-
electric drive train and vehicle OEMs. All for design and development work. So this
approval, along with the fact that our large cells and multi-cell modules are now
being assembled by Belton Technology Group, is a thing. For their contract manufacturing
partner in Shenzhen, China, now. Well, this gives them a significant head start
on competitors. Especially those that are targeting the Chinese market.

### Ultracapacitors

So unlike batteries, which produce and store energy by means of a chemical reaction.
Then ultra capacitors store [energy in an electric field](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/05/electric-powertrain-company-alte-forms-joint-venture-with-inmatech-inc-to-produce-hybrid-electric-storage-devices/).
This electrostatic energy storage mechanism enables ultra capacitors to charge and
discharge in as little as fractions of a second, perform normally over a broad temperature
range (-40°C to +65°C). Finally, they operate reliably through one million or more
charge/discharge cycles and resist shock and vibration.

## Conclusion: Powering the Future of Transportation

ultracapacitors are revolutionizing vehicle energy storage, offering a glimpse into
the future of sustainable transportation. These high-power devices complement traditional
batteries, enhancing performance and efficiency in hybrid and electric vehicles.
By providing rapid charge and discharge capabilities, ultracapacitors are bridging
the gap between conventional energy storage and the demands of modern electric powertrains.

The potential applications for ultracapacitors in the automotive industry are vast.
From regenerative braking systems to start-stop technology, these devices are proving
instrumental in improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. As the automotive
world shifts towards electrification, Maxwell’s ultracapacitors are positioned to
play a crucial role in overcoming the limitations of battery-only systems.

While challenges remain, such as increasing energy density and reducing costs, the
future looks bright for ultracapacitor technology. As research and development continue,
we can expect to see even more innovative applications emerge, further accelerating
the transition to cleaner, more efficient vehicles.
