## Introduction to a Folding Electric Scooter

A folding electric scooter: just think about it. I mean imagine years of moving
heavy furniture. Also lugging your heavy suitcase all the way from your home to
the airport. As well simply trying to get somewhere on a rainy day with a heavy
umbrella. Now, imagine lasting a full hour at 25 mph on a battery-powered, rechargeable
scooter.

#### Fun Ride on an electric scooter

It sounds incredible, and it is. That’s what you get when you build an electric
scooter powered by a set of pedals and a [rechargeable battery](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/11/rechargeable-batteries-callout-from-call2recycle/).
This scooter’s design combines all the best parts of a folding commuter bike, a
motorized standup tricycle, and an electric skateboard into one innovative package.
It’s just as easy to ride as it is to fold up for storage. To top it all off, this
scooter is incredibly inexpensive: less than $500.

#### Scenta Electric Scooter

So scenta, initiated by The Engineering and Technology Board (the etb), works with
leaders in the science. Also we be Science. engineering and technology (SET) community.
All to provide a gateway to the best information and resources. Especially for those
pursuing a career in SET.

William J. Mitchell Professor of Architecture and Media Arts and Sciences developed
the [folding electric scooter](https://greenlivingguy.com/2006/08/energy-dept-ready-to-tap-emergency-oil/)/
vehicle. One which boasts of being [clean](https://greenlivingguy.com/2007/12/electric-drive-go-down-the-avenue/),
compact, energy efficient. I mean not to mention cool, along with several of his
MIT students.

#### Conclusion

In addition, the team also collaborated with SYM. For that’s a major scooter manufacturer
in Taiwan. Also and ITRI, Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute. The
[scooter](https://greenlivingguy.com/2005/05/pev-article-in-the-ny-times-that-the-green-living-guy-was-referenced/),
which has a clean, simple design. For it was dreamt up in response to a need in
Asian and European cities. All which are already fond of traditional scooters. The
advantage of the new model, however, is that it does not run on the old-style. Thereby
polluting two-stroke engine and is silent.

Taking their lead from origami and existing folding bicycles, the Smart Cities team
addressed the problem by designing a clean, green, silent scooter that can be folded
in half and towed like a rolling suitcase—easy to take on trains, or indoors—or
stacked in a rack for storage and battery charging.
