explore.org is working with Jack Johnson’s Concert Tour to be Totally For Green Living.

explore.org, the multi-media division of The Annenberg Foundation has joined forces with The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation to support the environmental programs of the 2010 All At Once non-profit partners.

Through the “Capture Your Commitment” movement, people are urged to take environmental action by starting with a personal commitment.  Inside a photo booth in the Village Green at Jack Johnson’s concerts, and online.  Once there, you will be able to choose on the Foundation website what programs you want to commit your dollars.  For example, from supporting sustainable food systems, reusing and recycling, to volunteering monthly with their local nonprofits.

Commitments and photos are posted online with pledges quantified in real numbers; illustrating Jack Johnson’s vision, “an individual action, multiplied by millions, creates global change.”

Capture Your Commitment keeps in the spirit of explore.org’s mission to champion the selfless acts of others, and never stop learning.  To date, members have made the following commitments on the 2010 tour:

“Music has always been a significant vehicle for change, but Jack Johnson is taking that notion to a new level,” said Charlie Annenberg Weingarten.  “His ability to support so many groups simultaneously, while developing easy channels for fans to get involved, is giving the entire music industry a new, more sophisticated philanthropic model.”

What was really cool to hear about with Jack Johnson and his new album called To The Sea, on his Brushfire Records label; and Jack will once again donate 100% of his To the Sea tour profits to charity. To The Sea was recorded in a solar-powered studio owned by Jack.  It was also released in eco-friendly packaging.

His wants to have a world tour continuing to lead in sustainable touring.  His efforts to reduce his environmental impact on the globe is huge; so Go Jack Go!! Go Jack Go!!

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. Available through May 5 at charitybuzz.com/auctions/NYRPEarthDay, the Restore New York City, Restore the Earth Auction offers bidders the chance to spend the day with the organization’s founder, Bette Midler or act as a muse for a custom painting by renowned artist, Ryan Paul Simmons. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
