The Electric Drive Transportation Association commits to launch the Plug-in Electric Vehicles Acceleration Initiative, which will develop market incentives, supportive regulation, and profitable business models that will stimulate mass market acceptance of electric cars.
GreenTech Automotive
Creating Jobs in the Green, Affordable Vehicle Field
Greentech Automotive will invest $1 billion to build manufacturing plants in Mississippi and Virginia, and will sell 100,000 electric vehicles for less than $10,000 each. This will create thousands of green jobs and make energy efficient vehicles affordable to average consumers.
Hertz Corporation and Jack D. Hidary Foundation
Hertz Global EV
The Hertz Corporation and the Hidary Foundation commit to launch a global electric vehicle rental and car-sharing service, which will include cars from Nissan and Toyota among others. The service is working with automakers and retail partners to install charging infrastructure in urban centers in order to address one of the primary challenges to electric vehicle adoption.
Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation
Supporting Low Carbon Transportation in China
The Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation commits to help China realize its greenhouse gas intensity targets by introducing aggressive fuel economy standards, training for government officials, and methods to calculate and reduce carbon emissions.

“Ecommando” is an action packed Web series that follows Ex-Navy Seal and environmentally clueless Leon Green (Jason Nash, star of Atom.com’s “The Shaman” and “Jason Nash Is Married”). Leon is quite possibly the least qualified person on the planet to Save Mother Earth, but he is forced to take a job protecting the environment after his girlfriend drives off in his home. To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. Available through May 5 at charitybuzz.com/auctions/NYRPEarthDay, the Restore New York City, Restore the Earth Auction offers bidders the chance to spend the day with the organization’s founder, Bette Midler or act as a muse for a custom painting by renowned artist, Ryan Paul Simmons. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
