While I was in California on my The Green Living Guy book tour that some of you might had seen pictures on my facebook page, you might have seen pictures of my The Green Living Guy book tour.  It was my first opportunity like that ever so rock out and get green answers.

I’ll post them later however since the main point here is that some actors are green or supporting green and don’t even know it.  That’s a detriment to their campaign to help green out when all it needs it a good old push!  Charlotte’s that kind of girl to do it!

Anyway, I met Charlotte at the Green Carpet for the Environmental Media Association 20th annual awards dinner.  Usually the ones that consider themselves big shots walk buy but most of the greats spoke with me.  Ted Turner, James Cameron, Mark Paul Gossielier, Ed Begley, Jr, Josh Fox, Jeff Skoll and Charlotte Ross.  Now I did meet up with the co-host from the John Stewart show but there’s this certain thing I relate to people on and then say this one is cool in my book.  Ya know??

While at the 20th Annual Environmental Media Association awards celebration last month in Los Angeles, I ran into Charlotte Ross from NYPD Blue and recently from Glee.

It was my first opportunity like that ever so rock out and get green answers.  Many many thanks to my sponsors A Lot To Say, Inc. for helping me to get out to the West Coast for this book tour.

Man oh man is all I can say. Except, I was not sure what made her an environmentalist.  After some research, I found out she is big time into the People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), check out her action for PETA; huh..huh!!!!

However, Aysia Wright from Planet Green was with me to ask those questions. I might also be getting a blog talk radio interview with her soon so STAY TUNED!!!!

As a dad I could relate to her talking about watching her son Tyler (hey my son’s name is Tyler too!!!) learn how to go green being very important to her.

In the video below, Charlotte talked about learning from child about all the great things they are learning in school about recycling and those plastic water bottles. “I thought I could throw out the plastic bottle and my child said nope,” she said.

Then I was on Facebook yesterday to find out that Charlotte is working with a great animal shelter that recycles 75-80% of items received.  In other words about 255,000 pounds of blankets and the like are being abated from landfills and being re-used for pets in the California area.

Hey Charlotte, your supporting Green things and you didn’t even know it!!!

Furthermore, on vegetarian star she was reported to talk about better farming and no fur.  I like the fact she went nude posing for the idea but that’s another Green Living Guy story.  She adds:

“Whether you’re a vegetarian or not, is not the issue. My fight is for all animals to have a very basic and fundamental right which is to live a healthy and torture-free life. To let animals ‘live’ in crammed cages where they can’t move, turn around or feel the sun is inhumane. And, many facilities don’t put their very sick or dying animals out of their misery but, instead let them die a slow, painful death and then have the nerve to throw it on our dinner plates. These farming practices should be outlawed.”

“Lastly, my dream is for all local animal shelters to be no-kill. The amount of loving, healthy dogs and cats that are put down everyday brings tears to my eyes. Do you know that many shelters still practice grouped gas euthanasia?? Horrendous. I’m currently producing a documentary on the issue. Please, adopt from your local animal shelters and save a life.”

Although she didn’t mention it here, Ross doesn’t want animals’ skin being used for fashion either. You can find her nude body on t-shirts from Urban Outfitters which urge fashionistas to shun clothing containing fur.

On the PETA website she adds:

“I can’t think of anything more heartless than to torment and kill animals in the name of fashion,” said Ross. Animals raised for fur face lives in small cages, often sick or injured and left unattended and unprotected in extreme weather conditions, or days of agony in traps, tearing flesh and breaking bones in a struggle to get free.

Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL) is an award-winning non-profit 501(c)3 public charity. We collect, transport and distribute recycled and new pet-related items to comfort stray, sick, neglected and abused homeless animals in shelters, rescue groups, sanctuaries and foster groups. In addition, as an Emergency Response Team, we partner with those organizations to provide relief and comfort to animals that are displaced or endangered by catastrophe.

Operation Blankets of Love is a Partner Service Provider for The American Red Cross of Santa Monica. Best Buy in Northridge accepts employee and customer donations to OBOL.  With Eileen are Best Buy’s Christine Reese, who heads the donation campaign. and General Manager, John Palyok.

Bins are overflowing at PETCO in Burbank with donated items!!  Shown here with Eileen is PETCO Manager Maria Vanegas.

Thousands of homeless animals are adopted from shelters because of OBOL. The donated items of comfort increase an animal’s chance for adoption, thus eliminating the need of euthanasia due to shelter overpopulation.

Product donations of over 255,118 items collected, transported and secured for use in animal shelters, rescue groups, foster homes and sanctuaries. This resulted in thousands of animals being saved. They even get supported by the big box retailers in town.  Here are some piks to prove it!!Then I found out she works with an organization called Operation Blankets of Love.  OBOL

Now look, I’m no vegetarian here but I have cut down on my meat consumption and as Charlotte understands, here is why from PETA website.

Also, I do love dogs and recycling so that combination does inspire me to help out my animal shelter too!!  Wouldn’t Charlotte inspire you?!?!?

As PETA adds about why eating less meat is important here is why:

Almost everyone calls himself or herself an “environmentalist.” Maybe you recycle, pick up litter, or conserve energy in your home. But did you know that if you want to help the Earth, the best thing you can do is to stop eating meat? Here’s why:

Pollution: Can you imagine a city without a sewer system? That’s what factory farms are like. Thousands of animals producing thousands of pounds of, well, poop. The poop goes into “lagoons,” which often spill over into lakes and streams.

Land: On 1 acre of land, you can grow 20,000 pounds of potatoes, or you can grow 165 pounds of beef in the same space. About 87 percent of the farmland in the U.S. is used to raise animals for food.

Water: More than half of all water used in the U.S. goes to raising animals for food!

Deforestation: Everybody’s heard about rain forests and how they’re disappearing. Where are they going? They’re being chopped down to make way for grazing land for cows who will be killed for food.

Energy: Producing one fast-food hamburger uses enough fuel to drive a small car 20 miles and enough energy for 17 showers. If you eat hamburgers, you may as well let your faucets.
