## Chevy Volts Felix Kramer

Especially and discover the various ways in which these electric vehicles are transforming
the automotive industry. I love it at one green mile at a time.

Ron Freund and I both are feeling this amazing moment — and comparing notes.  For
we agree it feels unreal that we are actually driving real production plug-in vehicles.
Ron feels it’s the most advanced vehicle he’s ever seen. Even without signs on the
cars.  That’s because people notice them and are giving us thumbs up on the highways(
as happened when there were only a handful of [hybrids](https://greenlivingguy.com/2006/04/electric-vehicle-drive-future-karmas-gonna-get-you/)
on the road).  His son was trailed by a highway patrolman who wanted to talk about
the car. Andy Frank says it’s “exactly as I had anticipated it would operate. It’s
like driving my dream.”

See below for links to media and photos of our celebration.  Also the amazing uptake
on our Victory essay.  Finally and some new good news from GM. Enjoy your holidays!

Local Report about Chevy Volts Felix Kramer got for people

A local report about our fun event (with such short
notice, we didn’t get any national
media). However, ace cinematographer Chris Baldwin will be putting together some
video.

#### Felix’s long piece about it putting plug-in cars in the context of the large challenges we face.

It ran at GM-Volt.com[ http://gm-volt.com/2010/12/22/calcars-plug-in-campaign-victory-after-8-years](http://gm-volt.com/2010/12/22/calcars-plug-in-campaign-victory-after-8-years)
and garnered thousands of page views and over 140 comments in a day, including:

At Plug In America’s blog, Sherry Boschert, author of “Plug-In Hybrids: the Cars
That Will Recharge America,” [http://www.pluginamerica.org/drivers-seat/historic-calcars-prof-frank-get-plug-hybrid-chevy-volt](http://www.pluginamerica.org/drivers-seat/historic-calcars-prof-frank-get-plug-hybrid-chevy-volt),
ended a posting,

The point is that Prof. [Frank](https://greenlivingguy.com/2010/09/the-conversion-scene-on-plug-in-hybrid-electric-vehicles-phev-calcars-update-with-the-green-living-guy-twist/),
Kramer, and Gremban helped propel a huge change in the auto industry.  I mean that
will benefit our national security.  Also the environment and consumer pocketbooks.
Our work isn’t finished — Plug In America and CalCars and our other allies have
got a lot of educating of the public left to do.  So working for plug-in friendly
policies, and more. But as these three pioneers take the keys to their new Volts.
Because it’s a moment to celebrate.

Finally, great news from GM’s CEO Dan Akerson: GM Planning to Triple or Quadruple
Electric Car Volumes by 2015, LG Chem Says Batteries Not a Constraint

#### Chevy Volt plug-in electric first fully production EV

The [Chevy Volt](https://greenlivingguy.com/2013/06/chevy-spark-ev-car-at-nyias-2013/)
is the first fully electric production car designed and produced by General Motors
Company since the EV1 retired in 1999.
The [Chevy Volt](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/11/chevy-volt-today-insights-from-the-launch-party-till-now/)
is the second plug-in car ever launched by General Motors, following the equally(
if not more) controversial introduction of the EV1, also known as the “Bowtie. The
Holden Volt, launched in Australia in late 2011 and available in other global markets
starting late 2012. It is the first plug-in car designed and produced by a local
manufacturer, with Holden Motorsport managing the production, quality, and delivery
of the car. The Volt and Volt coupé are the third and fourth plug-in cars ever launched
by GM, with the [Chevrolet Spark EV](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/11/msi-lighting-helps-carnival-cruise-lines-green-lighting-potentially-saving-over-700-million-annually/)
being the fifth.

The Volt will be the second offering of the new generation of General Motors plug-
in hybrids. Then with the Chevrolet Spark EV.  For it should be available in some
global markets since mid-2011.

The new Volt features a 8.0 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. One which may be charged
from either a 240 V household outlet or a 150 V outlet at fast-charging stations.
For it will have a 20 mile all-electric range and a 93 mile per gallon all-electric
range. That’s when running on its lithium-ion battery.

For the Volt will have a top speed of up to 88 mph and a 0 to 60 mph acceleration
of 8.5 seconds. It is be available in only one trim level, LS.  It is initially
being sold only in the U.S.  However, it may be introduced in other markets later.

#### Conclusion

In addition, the Volt is offered in sedan form only. It will also be available only
with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, only to fleet customers.

The Volt will have a base price of US$39,750 after a $7,500 federal tax credit.
In addition don’t forget that $800 delivery fee.

Production started the new Volt is scheduled to start in late 2012. Felix got the
first deliveries beginning in the U.S. during the second half of the year. Then
it’ll be continuing on to other global markets.

Finally, the Volt will be built at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. All which
is the only plant that builds only Chevrolet passenger cars. Because it will be
the only plant to assemble a hybrid vehicle from start production.
