The Green Living Guy talks with one of the PR people from the Home Depot about their Eco Options certification program. It’s so simple to go green, it’s as simple as going to the Home Depot.

From insulation to attic doors, caulk, tape, hydrolic cement for leaks in the basement.  LED bulbs they got it.  We’ll be doing a series of stories on things you can get at the Home Depot.  One story would NOT give it justice.

The Home Depot offers an extensive selection of ENERGY STAR® qualified, solar, LED, and alternative energy products. These energy efficient products, such as ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, use significantly less energy than conventional products. You can save money on your utility bills and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

ENERGY STAR Appliances
For a typical home, appliances account for about 20% of the energy bills. That’s up to $380 per year. ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances use 10-50% less energy and water than standard models saving you money and the environment.

When purchasing a new appliance, remember there are two price tags: what you pay to take it home and the energy and water costs to use it. By replacing your 10 year old refrigerator, dishwasher, room air conditioner and clothes washer with ENERGY STAR® labeled equipment, you could save about $180 a year.  In my area of the world it can be up to thousands a year.
