## Peugeot’s iOn first new generation 100% electric vehicle

Let’s hear it for the new Peugeot electric vehicle they launched. The Peugeot iOn
Electric Vehicle is a notable addition to the growing electric car market. Environmental
awareness is becoming a key focus of the UK government. In addition to local authorities
and the general public. That’s also combined with the [development of new battery](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/02/ctek-developing-wireless-battery-charging/)
technology. It’s clear that electric vehicles are the perfect fit for urban mobility
today and tomorrow.

The Peugeot iOn combines remarkable packaging with a spacious interior, ease of
driving, high levels of safety, big [car comfort levels and a high standard](https://greenlivingguy.com/2018/10/ford-clean-car-standards-comments-show-companys-true-colors-company-endorses-trump-administrations-misleading-claims-in-support-of-rollback/)
specification. It also benefits from all the inherent advantages [provided by electric technology](https://greenlivingguy.com/2014/02/carcharging-provides-electric-vehicle-charging-services-at-the-science-technology-park-at-johns-hopkins-in-baltimore/).
Namely, it provides unprecedented silence, the absence of tailpipe emissions and
superb driveability.

## Peugeot iOn Electric Vehicle: An “all inclusive” mobility offer**:**

Peugeot UK will market the new iOn electric vehicle based on an “all-inclusive”
mobility offer consisting of a four year contract. On a four year, 40,000 mile contract
the monthly payment will be £415 excluding VAT, which includes:

 1. The lease of the vehicle ([battery pack considered part of the vehicle](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/10/research-is-underway-on-rare-electric-vehicle-battery-fires/))
 2. Full warranty cover for the vehicle, [battery and electric power train](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/02/return-of-battery-powered-trains-a-major-breakthrough/)
for the period of the lease
 3. Full servicing and full maintenance for four years and 40,000 miles**
 4. Peugeot Connect Services (available April 2011)

The Peugeot iOn marked the brands entry into the electric vehicle marketcompact
efficient and fully zero emissions

And, as an industry leading offer, Peugeot will make available exactly the same
benefits to the second user on a second four year contract at a reduced monthly
amount. This gives a further four years of worry free motoring.

### **Range **

Old technology electric vehicles have previously been limited due to their potential
range. However, now with the new battery technologies available, this range has
increased considerably.

Thanks to the Peugeot iOn’s [energy management ](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/07/ev-charging-energy-battery-energy-storage-systems/)
of[ ](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/07/ev-charging-energy-battery-energy-storage-systems/)
its Lithium-ion battery pack and the optimised energy recovery during deceleration
and braking, it has a potential range of 93 miles. In practical terms, this is sufficient
to cover the majority of a motorist’s daily trips. In fact, 90% of these trips are
less than 35 miles.

### Recharging

It takes six hours to fully [recharge the battery](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/11/rechargeable-batteries-callout-from-call2recycle/)
using a traditional household socket. A quick charge using a special charging unit
provides a 50 % charge in only fifteen minutes, or 80 % in thirty minutes.  Bearing
in mind that a conventional car is at a standstill for up to 90% of the [time](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/11/the-bmw-ix-flow-featuring-e-ink-makes-it-to-times-2022-list-of-best-inventions/)
when used in an urban or semi-urban context, the time needed to recharge the iOn
is entirely compatible with what motorists are used to.

### Unbeatable low running costs**:****

With average running costs estimated at £2.50 per 120 miles, the energy bill of
the iOn is unbeatable regardless of which recharging mode is used.  Carried out
overnight or during “off-peak hours” recharging costs can be reduced further. This
also helps optimise the use of available [power produced by the electricity](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/06/total-recharge-from-vistabule-teardrop-trailer-solar-powered-by-sunflare/)
supply companies.

An electric vehicle also benefits from a range of cost savings over a conventional
internal combustion engined vehicle.

 1. No petrol or diesel costs – potential saving of £1515 **($2,478.00 USD) **per year*
 2. No Congestion Charge (where applicable) – saving of £1696 annual charge for London
 3. No Parking charges (where applicable, eg City of Westminster)
    – potential saving
of £1939 per year – £10 x 230 days of parking, less admin fee

Total potential annual saving – **£5150 or $8,500.00** **USD **by operating an electric
vehicle over a conventional internal combustion powered car.

### No compromise on safety

The iOn has the same level of [safety equipment as a conventional modern car](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/01/safety-car-e-fia-porsche-taycan-new-safety-car/).
Its standard equipment – six air bags, ESP, electronic brake force distribution (
EBFD), emergency brake assist (EBA) – and the design of the body structure – will
allow it to achieve a four star rating in the 2010-2011 EuroNcap.

### The market and its customers**:**

The success of the European electric vehicle market will be very dependent on tax
incentives at the time of purchase or during ownership. Also, success will depend
on the introduction of infrastructures, possible ecological constraints in terms
of urban traffic and the fluctuating [price of fossil fuels](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/04/more-reasons-to-keep-building-our-own-electric-vehicles-j-d-power-and-associates-reports-despite-rising-fuel-prices-the-outlook-for-%e2%80%9cgreen%e2%80%9d-vehicles-remains-limited-for-the-forese/).

The market is set to grow. It will represent 4% to 5% of the total European Market
by 2020. For this reason, iOn production will increase gradually. It aims to reach
a total of 50,000 by 2015.

iOn targets local governments and public services, recognizing their vital role
in community development and infrastructure management. It also focuses on companies
in the transport and energy sectors, which are critical for delivering efficient
services and ensuring sustainability. Leasing companies and car-sharing firms are
key clientele, as they represent innovative solutions for urban mobility and reduced
emissions. Additionally, large corporations’ fleets are part of the target market,
providing significant opportunities for enhancing operational efficiency and integrating
advanced technologies. By addressing the diverse needs of these sectors, iOn aims
to foster collaboration that drives progress and creates value for all stakeholders
involved.

Private individuals are also secondary customers. They trust the brand and certainly
will lead the change in their relationship with cars.

Peugeot already has a long history in the production of electric vehicles. For they
launched it first vehicle in 1941. It was called the three wheeled VLV. In 1995
it also launched what is still the best selling electric vehicle: the Peugeot 106
electric. Now with the introduction of the Peugeot iOn, Peugeot will certainly further
strengthen its position as the leading producer of electric vehicles.

### _*Fuel saving calculated as follows:_

 * §  Average MPG for a vehicle driven in an urban environment – 30 mpg
 * Ø   Cost of recharging the iOn over 10,000 miles

### **Difference = £1,723.33 – £208.33 = £1515.00 or $2,478.00 for us in the United States!!

 * Ø  **Full Servicing and full maintenance includes tyres, brake pads and brake
   discs
