April 22nd is Earth Day, and the PB&J Campaign is celebrating the day by encouraging Americans to eat America’s greatest sandwich to fight global warming, save land and water, and cut pollution. A plant-based lunch like a PB&J saves about 2.5 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions, 130 gallons of water, and 24 square feet compared to the average American lunch.

This Earth Day, when you are screwing in new CFL bulbs and setting up your compost bin don’t forget to eat a PB&J sandwich.  You will be making a big difference in reducing your environmental impact.

The PB&J Campaign is a nonprofit environmental effort working to combat environmental destruction by reducing the amount of animal products people eat. The PB&J Campaign approaches positive change one meal at a time by illuminating the differences one single dining decision can make. Earth Day is “a great occasion to let people know that eating an easy, yummy, inexpensive lunch they already know and love is a strong environmental action, like taking out the recycling or riding a bike to work instead of driving,” explained PB&J Campaign director Bernard Brown. “The PB&J Campaign isn’t just about the PB&J; any plant-based meal, like falafel or a bean burrito can have the same kind of impact.”
