TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, donated $50,000 today to The Nature Conservancy to help protect and restore the Northern Everglades, the headwaters of the Everglades, one of the great savanna and wetland landscapes of the United States.
The Nature Conservancy is partnering with the federal government in the restoration of five ranches in the Fisheating Creek Basin portion of the Northern Everglades. The ranches were selected for protection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The Conservancy is now working with NRCS to help design and implement the restoration projects that are part of the conservation easements over the ranches. The conservation easements will prevent development while allowing the ranching families to continue to work and manage the land.
The scope of the Northern Everglades protection project includes the watershed from Orlando to Lake Okeechobee and brings together a diverse array of partners: conservation organizations, ranchers, the state and federal governments, and the South Florida Water Management District, among others.
TD Bank presented the donation to the Conservancy at a preview tour of its new energy efficient bank branch in Ft. Lauderdale with 400 solar panels on the store’s roof, drive-thru canopy and adjacent solar field set to produce a minimum of 100,000 kWh of electricity a year.
