Social and economic justice. Environmental and community health. Good for BOTH people AND planet. That’s what we mean when we say green.
Our green grants contest, now in its second year, adds another kind of green – a cash prize. A generous Green America donor provides us with a grant to distribute to local green projects. We want you to help us choose the grantees.
We need your help to find the best local green projects around the country that could use a financial boost toward their green goals.
Tell us about an inspiring local-community project that brings together both the people and planet sides of green, and the project’s organizers could win one of four green grants for their project – one top prize of $2,500, and three second prizes of $1,000.
We’ll be collecting nominations until May 31. Of the nominations, we’ll select 10 projects that best exemplify social justice and environmental responsibility for you to vote on in a second round. We’ll post the of the top-ten nominees in mid- June, and send it out via e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.
Please share this invitation widely to help us find local projects all across the country that show how green means people and planet. We were so inspired to hear — and share — the stories of last year’s nominees, such as the Grand Prize Winner, Build It Up, West Virginia: a summer program for Appalachian youth working on community sustainability projects that can power the local economy in ways that aren’t based on coal-mining.

The more nominations we receive, the more great green news from all across the country there will be to share. Seeing these projects all in one place will counter the usual depressing headlines. They’ll provide hope and inspiration to everyone that together, people everywhere are creating a more just and sustainable world.
