Largest Solar Facility in New England Powers 2000 Homes

First off we know, we know. Con Edison Development is one of the Northeast’s leading developers of renewable and energy infrastructure assets. More noteworthy, it has delivered the largest, operating solar installation in New England. Furthermore, this solar install is at the New Bedford Business Park.

Firstly, it’s a ten-acre solar facility. More importantly, it’s situated within the New Bedford Business Park which straddles two towns. More noteworthy, they are the towns of Dartmouth and New Bedford in Massachusetts.

Most noteworthy though, Con Edison Development serves as developer, owner and operator of the 2-megawatt (MW) project. As well, the New Bedford Business Park install began delivering clean and renewable power. Cause they delivered to Massachusetts utilities starting on March 10.

In addition, it has more than 8,000 crystalline silicon panels. As well, the installation delivers enough energy to give power to 2,000 households.

The ground-mounted panels are almost invisible from outside the park.

Con Edison Development executives note that the facility is playing an important role in helping Massachusetts utilities. It’s helpng to meet the goals of the state’s Green Communities Act and Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard.  These statutes enable utility companies to enter into contracts with renewable energy developers and set a mandated, statewide target of 400 MW of solar generation.

“As New England’s premier solar facility, this project represents a giant step forward toward creation of an emissions-free environment,” said Mark Noyes, vice president of Con Edison Development.  “Con Edison Development is proud to be working with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the New Bedford Business Park to reduce greenhouse gases while we promote America’s energy independence.”

In concluson, Mr. Noyes said that the project received enthusiastic support from the Town of Dartmouth Board of Selectmen. Finally and in addition,, the Dartmouth Conservation Commission, and business park tenants.

“This is a problem-free project and the initiative is a major win for the business park, which has attracted six renewable energy companies during the last five years,” said Tom Davis, executive director of the Greater New Bedford Industrial Foundation.
