With the price of gas climbing by the week and with no real end in sight, consumers are looking for everyway possible to cut back and ultimately save at the pump. From carpooling to riding a bike to work, no alternative is ruled out.

  1. Cheap Gas (Free for the Android) – Cheap Gas helps you find the cheapest gas stations near your location, address, city or area. You can find gas prices using mobile phone’s GPS or other location services. Also search for cheap gas prices near a zip code, address or city.
  2. Gas Price Predictor (Free for the iPhone) – Know tomorrow’s gas prices today! This app gathers the latest data from the web and estimates the next day’s gas prices. Next time you pass by a gas station, be confident that you’re getting the best prices! 
  3. Gas Mileage Calculator (Free for the Android) – A simple to use gas mileage calculator. Figure out your car’s gas mileage and cost per mile. Just enter the number from your last fill-up. Then press the calculate button to see the results.
  4. Gas Cubby MPG Car Maintenance (Free for the iPhone) – Gas Cubby is the ultimate tool for tracking gas mileage and vehicle maintenance. Whether you’re a hypermiler. Or do you just want a reminder to change the oil. Well, Gas Cubby will save you money. It’ll also keep your vehicle operating at its peak.

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
