The Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown Lakefront unveils the largest indoor living green wall and it’s bold.
The 720 square foot eco wall makes a strong visual statement that demonstrates Hilton’s Worldwide commitment to green efforts. The installation was created by Ambius who is a leading provider of interior landscaping as well as a division of Rentokil Initial plc (LSE: RTO).
More over, the green wall system was manufactured by GSky Plant Systems is sustainable. And by that I mean it contains a tray system. All featuring an energy efficient computer controlled irrigation system.
Because green walls are also referred to as a living walls or vertical gardens. They are either free standing. I mean or part of a building and can be partially or completely covered with vegetation.
Denise Eichmann is Ambius’ Senior Project Manager. He says the living wall at the Embassy Suites Chicago contains 3,840 plants which represent six species. In addition and most noteworthy, the plants include hardy neon and golden pothos as well as the showy and delicate rabbit foot fern. Finally, a rich colored rex begonia and compact round arboricola.
Syed Hasan, the General Manager for Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown Lakefront also commented on the installation. He states that the green wall is not only beautiful to look, but also helps with indoor air quality. This is important because so many people live in urban environments. The average person spends a majority of their time indoors. According to Eichmann, the green wall is equivalent to 16 fourteen-foot tall trees.
Additionally, the green wall also helps with noise reduction because plants are able to absorb sounds and bring levels down.
