The North Face will EVEN give him green living outfits for the Outdoor Youth Ambassadorship. Yes! Clothes and equipment!

In an exceptional opportunity to blend job experience with adventure, the Sierra Club is giving one college student the chance to rock climb on the Great Lawn at the White House, white water raft down the American River, and march in the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

The Sierra Club, the largest and most influential environmental advocacy group, selected New York University rising sophomore Kokei Otosi for the Best Internship on Earth, an annual summer program uniting young adults with a passion for the environment with community outreach programs that focus on outdoor experiences.  Selected among hundreds of applicants, the winning intern also receives $2,000 worth of merchandise provided by The North Face, a hallmark brand for outdoor gear, apparel and footwear.

The Youth Ambassador will travel around the country with the Sierra Club’s Mission Outdoors programs, documenting these experiences in video blogs for the Sierra Club and PlanetExplore.com.  In addition to attending the Let’s Move Outside! event at the White House, participating in the Puerto Rican Day Parade and accompanying Inner City Outings on a white water rafting trip, upcoming excursions include mobilizing youth at Outdoor Nation NYC, participating at a Military Families Outdoors (Sierra Club-sponsored outdoors events for children of parents currently deployed) outing in Colorado Springs, and hiking through the San Gabriel Mountains.  Additional outings will be added as the summer progresses.

“The Sierra Club couldn’t be more thrilled with the enthusiasm shown by young adults around the country, when it comes to their interest in protecting the outdoors,” said Sarah Hodgdon, the Sierra Club’s Conservation Director. “Kokei impressed us with her passion, her energy, and her commitment to teaching children the importance of being environmentally conscious for life.”

“When I first learned about The Best Internship on Earth, I jumped at the chance to spend the summer outdoors educating kids,” said Kokei Otosi, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area.  “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I’m overjoyed to have been chosen for.”

To be considered for the 2011 Best Internship on Earth, students and recent graduates submitted a 90-second video showcasing their love for the outdoors and why they want to volunteer with the Sierra Club to help children explore, enjoy, and protect the planet.  In addition to $2,000 of gear and apparel from The North Face and Planet Explore, the internship comes with a stipend and all-expenses paid travel.
