She works with customers to makeover jewelry from pieces they already own to create custom, exceptional pieces. Heirlooms and antiques are restored to optimal form and function, or (if appropriate) refined to create the heirlooms of the future.Before establishing her private atelier, Distefano was the senior goldsmith for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, responsible for creating the museum's jewelry reproductions. After a year of studying art history and culture in Rome, Distefano returned to her native New York to launch her namesake company where she is the sole designer and president. With ancestral roots in Italy and citizenship in both Italy and the United States, Distefano brings the rich tradition of the court jeweler to the modern luxury marketplace while respecting the earth and its population.

New York Magazine acknowledged Donna Distefano as Best of 2010 for providing these services. InStyle Magazine featured this service in an article called “Making Over Your Jewelry.

In fact: Beginning in 2008 with annual Earth Day benefits for the Environmental Defense Fund, Donna Distefano continues to show support by donating 10% of the Feather ring sales to EDF. The Environmental Defense Fund is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations. Among these rights are access to clean air and water, healthy and nourishing food, and flourishing ecosystems.
