Toshiba International Corporation’s (TIC) LED Lighting Systems Division is proud to announce a new relationship with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.  As part of this agreement, Toshiba will supply the museum with its superior and innovative LED lamps, allowing museum visitors to experience the latest in eco-friendly illumination while significantly lowering the museum’s energy and maintenance costs.

“Our museum has always offered the best and the brightest, and our lighting should be no different,” said Jack Eby, Exhibit Design Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.  “We’re excited that our institution now features this cutting-edge lighting technology.”

The new lamps, Toshiba’s most recent innovation in LED lighting, are far more energy efficient and last significantly longer than conventional light bulbs or compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).

“The Toshiba LED lights, with their superior light quality and color, clearly illuminate the subtle surfaces of the pre-Columbian art,” said Michiru Tanaka, Lighting Consultant, Toshiba International Corporation LED Lighting Systems Division. “In addition, the lights allow tremendous flexibility in illuminating any space to meet the exacting requirements of all our customers.”

The Toshiba A19 is a high-quality LED lamp that uses only 5.6 to 7.8 watts of energy, reducing power consumption by as much as 85 percent.  Moreover, the bulbs are rated for 40,000 hours of use, while maintaining a superior quality of light, which is essential for use in this type of application.

“We are truly honored to provide lighting to a premiere institution such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston,” said Peter DallePezze, Vice President of Marketing & Product Development, Toshiba International Corporation LED Lighting Systems Division.  “We are proud that our lighting will help bring out the beauty of this amazing museum in a way that is both green and cost-effective.”

In a bold move demonstrating the company’s commitment to helping make LED technology the future of lighting, Toshiba stopped producing incandescent lamps in March 2010. Toshiba is the first major lighting manufacturer to proactively discontinue the production of incandescent lamps.
