## Concord City Renewable Energy

Just by replacing traffic lights with energy-efficient LED options, and by implementing
advanced lighting upgrades, **the City of Concord** _is projected to save_ **_$41,500
a year in energy costs_**_._ These upgrades include a range of sophisticated programming
for lighting systems. In addition, they include the installation of multiple solar
thermal systems. As a result, this represents a significant financial relief for
the city’s budget. This forward-thinking initiative not only champions [sustainability](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/10/live-plastic-less-more-sustainable-life-in-2023/)
but also plays an essential role in reducing their overall environmental impact.
Additionally, it leads to a remarkable decrease in [greenhouse gas emissions](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/04/how-digital-twins-can-help-cities-achieve-net-zero-by-2035/)
by more than **292,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year**. Such transformative
actions underscore the [city’s commitment to a greener future](https://greenlivingguy.com/2018/02/future-of-eco-houses-greenery-beyond-the-garden/).
In fact, they set a precedent for other municipalities to follow.

**_“Solar energy has gone from novelty to the mainstream here in Concord,” said
Mayor James Bouley.  “We are proud to lead the charge in New Hampshire by installing
solar thermal systems in four of our facilities.  This innovative renewable solution
coupled with the LED pedestrian signals and comprehensive [lighting upgrades means more clean energy](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/05/urban-solar-installs-commercial-solar-led-lighting-along-multi-use-pathway-on-vancouver-island/)
and more jobs for New Hampshire.”_**

## Concord Solar and Green Lighting

“Not only will the newly installed solar panels help reduce the Broadway Fire Station’s
utility bills, but they will serve as a teaching tool to the City’s residents, the
business community and to the Concord School District students about [energy efficiency and renewable](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/05/ethanol-workshop-to-discuss-future-of-biofuels/)
energy,” said Joanne Morin, Director, NH Office of Energy and Planning.  “Governor
Lynch has made it a priority to [improve energy efficiency](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/07/top-home-improvement-projects-to-pair-with-a-solar-panel-installation/)
across the State and to increase renewable energy.  Projects like these will save
NH taxpayers money, create jobs, and help [protect the environment](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/04/top-reasons-why-your-house-needs-a-green-makeover/).

### Renewable Energy and LED

“This project would not have been possible without the leadership and commitment
to [renewable energy](https://greenlivingguy.com/2017/03/resoc-power-project-promotes-large-scale-solar-plus-wind/)
and energy efficiency by the Mayor, Governor, Legislature and the State of New Hampshire,”
said City Manager Tom Aspell.  “We are thrilled to have played a pivotal role in
connecting the private sector with a municipal government, which generated green
collar jobs in the near-term during the installation process and will provide exceptional
cost savings to the City for the long-term.”

> _“Through this forward-looking initiative, the City of Concord is setting an excellent
> example for municipalities nationwide,” said Michael W. Gibson, P.E., Vice President,
> Energy Services for ConEdison Solutions.  “Our firm was gratified to have been
> selected by the City to help Concord achieve significant, long-term reductions
> in its carbon footprint.  We share the City of Concord’s commitment to the success
> of this exciting, multi-faceted program and look forward to the continuation of
> our work with the City.”_
