The Government of Canada and the Natural Areas Conservation Program announced a big land save. Firstly, Nature Conservancy of Canada’s successful acquisition of the Grassy Place.

More importantly it’s cause that’s a total of 1,570 hectares of land.

More interesting is that it’s located in southwest Newfoundland in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. As well, dignitaries attending  Honourable Peter Penashue, Member of Parliament for Labrador, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada.  All of them made the announcement on behalf of Canada’s Environment Minister, the Honourable Peter Kent. Finally all the Ministers agreed this was an important acquisition for the Government of Canada.

Therefore, the  government is pleased to be working with dedicated partners. For example and most importantly, the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Natural Areas Conservation Program.

In conclusion and so it seems, there’s a forest on this property. Therefore, it provides habitat for the threatened Newfoundland Marten. It’s also an important refuge for the La Poile Woodland Caribou herd which feeds there every early summer into fall.
