New York State was recognized as a national leader in energy _efficiency policy
and program implementation _in the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s(
ACEEE) 2011 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard released today.

The 2011 Scorecard provides an overview of the progress made by states in advancing
energy efficiency programs and policy in the residential, commercial, industrial
and transportation sectors. State rankings were determined in six areas that included
utility and public benefits programs and policies, transportation policies, building
energy codes, combined heat and power, state government initiatives and appliance
efficiency standards.

New York moved up to third in the overall state rankings this year after ranking
fourth in 2010. Massachusetts was ranked first this year, followed by California.

In addition to this recognition for New York State, the New York State Energy Research
and Development Authority (NYSERDA) was called out as “the epitome of an effective
and influential research and development institution” within the scorecard. In 2010,
NYSERDA was presented with a national award from ACEEE for its leadership in innovative
ideas and research and development of energy efficiency concepts and technologies.

“Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York has been recognized for its leadership
in energy efficiency by ACEEE, which is a highly esteemed national organization
with enormous impact on energy policy, research and education in this country,”
stated Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO of NYSERDA. “NYSERDA is pleased
to be recognized for its research and development in energy efficiency and we remain
committed to ensuring that New York continues to be a leader in the clean energy
economy through energy-efficient programs focused on long-term sustainability for
both its residents and businesses.”

“Energy efficiency is America’s abundant, untapped energy resource and the states
continue to press forward to reap its economic and environmental benefits,” said
ACEEE Executive Director Steven Nadel. “The message here is that energy efficiency
is a pragmatic, bipartisan solution that political leaders from both sides of the
aisle can support. As they have over the past decades, states continue to provide
the leadership needed to forge an energy-efficient economy, which reduces energy
costs, spurs job growth, and benefits the environment.”

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy acts as a catalyst to advance
energy efficiency policies, programs, technologies, investments, and behaviors.
