Let’s talk New Rochelle restaurants going green with Energy $mart Communities. The
effort is led by Elizabeth Silleck and Elyssa Rothe, along with the New Rochelle
Business Improvement District. Both definitely play a crucial role in helping restaurants
save energy in New York State. This innovative effort focuses specifically on New
Rochelle.

Local eateries are encouraged to adopt energy-efficient practices that not only
reduce costs but also contribute to a more sustainable environment. By implementing
energy-saving technologies and offering guidance on best practices, they aim to
empower restaurant owners to make informed decisions. These decisions benefit both
their businesses and the community at large. Through workshops, one-on-one consultations,
and the provision of resources, these [organizations are fostering a culture of sustainability](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/04/actz-green-products-eco-friendly-choices-for-al/)
within the vibrant New Rochelle dining scene. In doing so, they ensure that the
[city remains a leader in energy conservation](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/06/mayor-nutter-opens-citys-first-solar-pv-installation/).
This also enhances the overall experience for its patrons!

rest of the industry.”

## Spectators Sports Bar

Co-owners Steve Morris and Gary Torigian have run Spectators Sports Pub & Restaurant
for 30 years. They also looked to NYSERDA for the most cost-effective opportunities.
That’s essentially for [cutting back energy](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/04/kkr-buyout-firms-cut-energy-bloomberg-markets-magazine/)
use. To learn more, hear from Morris about what drove Spectators to get an [energy audit](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/07/5-reasons-why-you-should-consider-a-home-energy-audit/)
in the **video above**.

Both restaurants used [NYSERDA’s FREE FlexTech Energy Audit Program](https://www.nyserda.ny.gov/File%20Not%20Found?item=%2fpage-sections%2fgreen-jobs-green-new-york%2fprograms-for-small-businesses-and-not-for-profits%2ffinancing-program&user=extranet%5cAnonymous&site=website).
The program is for small businesses and not-for-profits. The owners received detailed
technical reports from Daylight [Savings](https://greenlivingguy.com/2019/11/driving-tips-to-help-the-environment/)
outlining the most cost-effective opportunities to reduce energy. As a result, the
reports were meant to help the owners develop a plan moving forward.

## NYSERDA Green Jobs Program

The restaurants may also be eligible for [low-interest financing through NYSERDA’s Green Jobs-Green NY](https://www.nyserda.ny.gov/File%20Not%20Found?item=%2fpage-sections%2fgreen-jobs-green-new-york%2fprograms-for-small-businesses-and-not-for-profits%2ffinancing-program&user=extranet%5cAnonymous&site=website).
Moreover, they may be eligible for cash incentives to make equipment upgrades through
NYSERDA’s [Existing Facilities Program](https://www.nyserda.ny.gov/File%20Not%20Found?item=%2fpage-sections%2fcommercial-and-industrial%2fprograms%2fexisting-facilities-program&user=extranet%5cAnonymous&site=website).
