For over 30 years, the Sierra Club has worked to protect the pristine wilderness of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
So petitioning Congress to protect the coastal plain as wilderness and blocking numerous attempts to open the refuge to oil and gas development.
They are also working hard to promote a rapid shift to clean, renewable forms of energy. All which will slow the effects of global warming on the Refuge, as well as organizing citizens in communities around the country to take action to ensure that this crown jewel of our wild heritage is permanently protected.

Important Decision
This November, the Obama administration will make a decision that could help ensure that the wildest part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — the coastal plain — would remain pristine and untouched. They are accepting public comments on this important decision until November 15th, just a few days away.
So far, close to 90,000 of your fellow Sierra Club members and supporters have made their voices heard for the Arctic. We are running out of time to hit our goal of 100,000 comments — will you help by adding your voice?

The Arctic Refuge
The Arctic Refuge is home to polar bears, caribou, birds that visit all 50 states, and musk oxen. The warming Arctic is already threatening the land and wildlife, and it is our responsibility to protect this land, not to hand it over to Big Oil.
The best thing you can do to protect the Arctic is to write your comment to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Obama administration, urging them to recommend a wilderness designation for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge’s Coastal Plain to protect it from oil and gas development.
