Diesel Drinking Water

In 2011, the natural gas industry was caught red-handed, secretly pumping over 32 million gallons of diesel fuel and diesel fuel by-products into the ground — and threatening our drinking water.1 This is after the industry denied using diesel in their fracking fluids!

In response, EPA has proposed draft regulations for the use of diesel in fracking. However, we need EPA to take it a step further and ban the use of diesel fuel and diesel by-products in fracking fluids. Will you help us get 25,000 letters to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson by May 31st to show widespread support for a ban on diesel?

The use of diesel in fracking fluids poses a great threat to our drinking water.2 Containing known carcinogens like benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes3, ingesting diesel can damage your central nervous system, liver and kidneys.4

The gas industry sees fracking as a profit bonanza — no matter the cost to our health or our environment. The natural gas industry can’t be trusted, and EPA needs to ban the use of diesel fuel and diesel fuel by-products in fracking.

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
