NYSERDA Adds One Month Deadline for $36.4 Million in Funding as Part of NY Sun Initiative

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced it is extending the deadline for proposers to take part in the NY-Sun Competitive PV Program, which brings affordable photovoltaic (PV) power to businesses, factories, municipal buildings and other larger commercial and industrial customers.

Announced in August, the program provides up to $107 million available from Governor Cuomo’s NY-Sun Initiative through the end of 2013. A total of $36.4 million is set aside for 2012; the rest will be awarded next year.

Proposals for the first round of funding were due Nov. 8. However, NYSERDA has extended that date to Dec. 5, due to Hurricane Sandy.

“With significant recovery efforts underway in the wake of this disaster, we are extending the submission deadline to assist potential applicants in the New York City area,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO, NYSERDA. “Governor Cuomo created the NY-Sun Initiative to encourage businesses and residents to partner with the state in the investment of solar power. We want to provide every opportunity for New Yorkers to participate in this innovative, clean energy program.”

Governor Cuomo launched NY-Sun to double in 2012 the amount of customer-sited solar power installed in 2011, and quadruple that amount by 2013. This initiative brings together and expands existing programs administered by NYSERDA, New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to ensure a coordinated and well-funded solar energy expansion plan.

The Competitive PV incentive is administered by NYSERDA as Program Opportunity Notice 2589, which seeks proposals for large (more than 50 kilowatts) PV systems.

A website,http://ny-sun.ny.gov/has been created to provide a one-stop-shop for applicants seeking funding through the NY-Sun program.
