While at the Ford Product Review Center back in 2013 I think. We were on the [Ford Motor Company](http://www.ford.com)
campus in Dearborn, Michigan. Furthermore, I then noticed the building was LEED
certified. It’s also located right on the Ford test track so I could live there.
Just kidding. Not really. I want to so live there!

[LEED](https://greenlivingguy.com/2017/09/toyota-takes-the-leed-in-texas/) means
Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Design as determined by the US
Green Building Council. This plaque symbolizes the LEED certification of this building.

Ford Goes LEED

The Ford Motor Company Engineering Design Center earned LEED Certification in January
2006.  Thereby making it the first building on campus to become LEED certified.
The project set a precedent.  I mean as all new construction and major renovations
are designed to meet LEED standards.

Lifestyle, a Ford Motor Company collaboration.  For it’s with Eaton, Infineon, SunPower
and Whirlpool.  So they are retrofitted the homes of two families with energy-efficient
appliances and solar panels.  That’s as well as a [Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/01/c-max-energi-hybrid-offers-true-electric-driving/)
vehicle. The program is also set out to demonstrate how a typical American family
can significantly lower its electricity costs.  All the while while limiting its
impact on the environment.

In addition to using home renewables, smart charging and [smart appliances](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/06/green-offices-are-improving-productivity-boosting-businesses-bottom-line/),
Ford is announcing at the 2014 International CES that MyEnergi Lifestyle 2.0.  One
that will demonstrate the benefits of integrating additional tools.  For example
or such as the ability to store energy within the home after it is captured by solar
panels. Customers will also have more ways to optimize their energy use.  Finally
and power they can tap to keep their homes running during outages. Ford is also
demonstrating an energy storage system from Sharp.  They will be demonstrating at
CES (Consumer Electronics Show).  Because this is as an example of what consumers
can use.

### How Does LEED Work?

According to the U.S. Green Building Council, [LEED](https://www.usgbc.org/leed)
certified buildings save money.  They also improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions
and create healthier places for people. They are a critical part of addressing climate
change and meeting ESG goals.  Thereby enhancing resilience.  Finally and supporting
more equitable communities.

To achieve LEED certification, a project earns points by adhering to prerequisites
and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials,
[health](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/02/how-smart-homes-lead-to-greener-lifestyles/)
and indoor environmental quality. Projects go through a verification and review
process by [GBCI](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/04/gbci-renamed-green-business-certification-inc/)
and are awarded points that correspond to a level of LEED certification: Certified(
40-49 points), Silver (50-59 points), Gold (60-79 points) and Platinum (80+ points).

### Choices of cars from @ford but they know I’ll take all electric or a plug-in hybrid.  Let’s hear it for the Ford Product Center!!!

In addition, Ford and its business associates worked with researchers from Georgia
Institute of Technology.  For they created a computer model.  One that calculates
the electricity usage of a typical single family in their home for one year.  As
well as and the associated savings.  I mean with moving to an energy-efficient lifestyle.
The cumulative results predict a 60 percent reduction in energy costs!  Folks, that’s
more than 9,000 kilograms of CO_(2) (55 percent reduction) saved. If every home
in the United States were to implement these [energy-saving technologies](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/02/10-energy-saving-technologies-for-homes-you-should-consider/)
OMG!  For it would be the equivalent of taking all the homes in California, New
York and Texas green.  Because that’s 32 million homes going hard green.  I mean
like off the power grid.
