Environmental Media Association Awards Ceremony 2013 a major Success

The Environmental Media Awards were unveiled at Warner Bros. Studios on October 19th for the 23rd annual event. It was another special evening as we honored four individuals and one organization making a difference for our environment along with innovative television programming, movies and digital content that educated and inspired us all.

Nearly 1000 guests were on hand for the Toyota and Lexus sponsored event, which opened with Glee’s Darren Criss’s special acoustic performance of “What a Wonderful World.” Jimmy Kimmel also surprised the audience with a hilarious video in honor of Matt Damon’s award that kept their years-long rivalry alive.

Presenters included Malin Akerman, Lance Bass, Ed Begley Jr., Julie Bowen, Mehcad Brooks, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Frances Fisher, Bill Gerber, Ginnifer Goodwin, Daryl Hannah, Josh Henderson, Alan Horn, Wendie Malick, Dawn Olivieri, Carter Oosterhouse, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Amy Smart, Darby Stanchfield, Marisa Tomei, James Van Der Beek, Wilmer Valderrama, Bradley Whitford and Constance Zimmer.

Outstanding honors went to Matt Damon who received the EMA Board of Directors Ongoing Commitment Award; Bill McKibben received the EMA Lifetime Achievement Award; Hayden Panettiere received the EMA Futures Award; Anna Getty received the EMA Green Parent Award and the Screen Actors Guild Awards® received the EMA Green Production Award.

The evening was filled with inspiring moments from our honorees, including Matt Damon’s account of the young girl who moved him to co-found Water.org and Bill McKibben’s call to action on climate change.

The EMA also unveiled a new PSA spotlighting the energy wasted via car idling. The hilarious spot tells the story of a prince turned pauper when the girl of his dreams saw he was idling his car. The PSA kicks off a campaign to highlight the need to end car idling and was funded by our friends at Toyota.

The EMA Awards continues to be one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly events in Hollywood. The 2013 Environmental Media Awards’ green initiatives included the following to create a Zero Waste Event:

Compostable serviceware and reusable glassware

Recycling system with color coded bins for paper, plastic, foil, glass and cardboard

Chef stations used local, seasonal and organic food whenever possible

Leftover food was donated to homeless shelters via the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition

Green fashion worn by presenters and guests alike

Special Toyota hybrid lane valet for hybrid, electric and alternative fuel vehicles

In addition to our Presenting Sponsors, Toyota and Lexus, we would like to thank event sponsors: Burt’s Bees, The Glad Products Company, Green Works, The Hess Collection, Kellogg Garden Products,  LAcarGUY Family of Dealerships, The Nature Conservancy, Naturepedic, Repax, Star Waggons and Tiffany & Co.
