# EPA Proposes Pollution Controls at Six Arizona Facilities

Firstly, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) is proposing pollution
controls at six facilities in Arizona to improve visibility at national parks and
wilderness areas.

[EPA](https://greenlivingguy.com/2018/05/epa-kilauea-eruption-response-update/) 
is proposing a federal plan to limit emissions such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur
dioxide tailored to six facilities.  First off, Tucson Electric Power’s Sundt Plant
in Tucson.  Then the Chemical Lime Nelson in Peach Springs and ASARCO’s Hayden Smelter.
In addition is Freeport McMoran’s Miami Smelter and the [Phoenix](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/02/epa-tells-phoenix-site-to-clean-up/)
Cement Company’s Clarkdale plant. Finally and in also the CalPortland Cement Company’s
Rillito plant. As a part of this process, [EPA](https://www.epa.gov) also evaluated
other sources but is not proposing to require any additional controls on these other
sources at this time.

### _Most noteworthy, EPA estimates the proposal would reduce sulfur dioxide by almost 30,000 tons per year.  As well, it will cut 󠀁[nitrogen oxides](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/12/epa-funding-to-reduce-air-pollution-from-locomotives-and-buses-operating-in-brooklyn-the-bronx-queens-and-nassau-and-rockland-counties/)󠁿 by around 3,100 tons per year._

### EPA public hearings on February 25, 2014.  Finally, in Phoenix and on February 26, 2014.  As well, in Tucson.  In conclusion and will accept comments for 45 days after publication in the Federal Register. A final determination will be made by June 27, 2014.
