## Greenvity Communications Launches IoT Solutions for Smart LED Lighting and Building Automation

January 2014 — Ok folks, let’s talk LED smart lamps for your home. Because, the
smart home revolution begins to accelerate. Moreover, one company is stepping up
with serious tech. Greenvity Communications has announced a new line of Internet
of Things (IoT) system solutions. These tools aim to transform LED lighting and
building automation by combining energy efficiency with real-time connectivity.

It’s no longer just about switching bulbs—it’s about creating intelligent, responsive
environments.

### Integrated Systems for Smart Living

Greenvity’s announcement centers on a suite of system-on-a-chip (SoC) and module-
based solutions. These are designed to power smart lighting, appliance control,
and building automation—both in homes and commercial spaces.

Their key innovation lies in integrating powerline communication (PLC) with radio
frequency (RF) into a single solution. This hybrid communication approach allows
devices to talk through existing electrical wiring and wireless signals. So, buildings
don’t need rewiring or complex retrofits to become smart.

For building managers, this means lower installation costs and faster rollouts.
For homeowners, it means plug-and-play upgrades that connect everything from light
switches to HVAC systems.

### Why Now?

The timing couldn’t be better. As energy costs climb and sustainability becomes
a business imperative, smart building technology is shifting from luxury to necessity.

According to industry analysts, global demand for smart lighting is rising sharply.
Consumers want systems that dim automatically, respond to occupancy, and sync with
[mobile apps](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/05/mobile-apps-to-help-save-money-at-the-gas-pumps/).
Businesses want to reduce their carbon footprint and utility bills. Greenvity’s
platform aims to meet both demands.

This aligns with the message behind [Green Lighting, the book I co-authored with Brian Clark Howard](https://greenlivingguy.com/green-living-merch-make-a-positive-environmental-impact/).
In it, we show how LED lighting can be the foundation for larger energy strategies.
Greenvity’s solution brings that vision to life with built-in intelligence.

### HomePlug Green PHY at the Core

Greenvity’s light LED platform is built on HomePlug Green PHY. It’s a standard developed
for energy-efficient networking. This lets devices communicate seamlessly while
minimizing power use.

The company also designed the chips with developers in mind. Manufacturers of lighting,
thermostats, appliances, and even electric vehicle chargers can build smarter products
using these ready-made tools.

Their GV7011 and GV7013 chipsets, along with the GV-LED-11 module, offer a complete
system. It includes both software and hardware support for real-world applications.
In fact, Greenvity light plans to release reference LED designs to speed up market
adoption.

### Smarter, Not Just Brighter

What makes this truly different is how it expands what lighting can do. Lights become
more than bulbs—they become part of the data network. Turn them off remotely. Set
schedules. Track energy use in real-time.

Buildings, homes, and cities can now adapt to their occupants, rather than the other
way around. This is a foundational piece of the smart grid and smart city movement.

And it’s coming from a company focused not just on hardware, but on full integration.

### Looking Ahead

Greenvity’s vision is about more than innovation—it’s about accessibility. They
want these systems to work in existing buildings, not just new construction. That’s
where the impact will be greatest.

As someone who’s long advocated for green tech adoption, I see this as a major leap
forward. Efficient lighting has always been a gateway to broader energy savings.
But smart lighting? That’s a game changer.

That is amazing!

Can’t wait to control my LED downlights from my iPhone. Will this work on wifi only,
or will I be able to control my lights when away on holiday as well?
