In 2014, the world witnessed a groundbreaking achievement at MetLife Stadium in
East Rutherford, NJ. I mean as it became the first stadium ever to meet the rigorous
environmental standards set by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA). This certification
solidified MetLife Stadium’s position as the first Certified Green Restaurant® stadium
globally. Thereby exceeding the GRA’s certification standards and also setting a
new benchmark. That’s for stadiums and also sporting events worldwide.

For the Super Bowl: the pinnacle of American football. For it is not only a showcase
of athletic prowess but also an opportunity for innovation and environmental sustainability.

## Going Green on a Grand Scale at MetLife Stadium

[MetLife Stadium](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/03/rimowa-luggage-use-msi-led-bulbs-worldwide-saving-millions/),
home to the New York Giants and New York Jets. For it boasts an impressive foodservice
operation. I mean with over 200 on-site restaurants also catering to up to 100,000
people in a single day. It is the largest food service operation ever to receive
the GRA’s certification, making its achievement even more remarkable. The stadium
partnered with Delaware North Companies Sportservice, its foodservice provider.
Especially to implement 61 different environmental measures. These measures encompassed
a wide range of initiatives. Thereby ensuring that every aspect of the stadium’s
operations adhered to sustainable practices.

### Sustainable Solutions at MetLife Stadium

MetLife Stadium’s [commitment to sustainability](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/01/led-light-super-bowl-2015-first-played-ever/)
can be seen in various aspects of its operations. Some of the notable green accomplishments
include:

 1. **Conversion of Waste Kitchen Oil into Biodiesel Fuel**: All waste kitchen oil
generated in the stadium is repurposed into biodiesel fuel. Thereby reducing reliance
on fossil fuels and promoting a circular economy.
 2. **Composting of Kitchen Scraps**: The stadium’s foodservice partner composts all
kitchen scraps. Also diverting organic waste from landfills and reducing greenhouse
    gas emissions.
 3. **Donation of Leftover Food**: Rather than wasting excess food, MetLife Stadium
donates all leftover food to local organizations. Then contributing to community
welfare and also minimizing food waste.
 4. **Comprehensive Recycling Program**: MetLife Stadium’s commitment to recycling
is evident through its recycling initiatives for cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminum,
and paper. Then diverting these materials from landfills. So the stadium reduces
    its environmental impact.
 5. **Use of ENERGY STAR Equipment**: The stadium prioritizes energy efficiency by
utilizing ENERGY STAR equipment. All which meets stringent energy efficiency standards
set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This choice also helps reduce
energy consumption. Moreover, reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
 6. **Water Conservation Measures**: MetLife Stadium incorporates various water-saving
technologies. I mean such as waterless urinals, touchless sensor faucets. Also
½ gallon faucet aerators, and low water landscaping. These measures minimize water
wastage. Also, they contribute to the stadium’s overall sustainability efforts.
 7. **Elimination of Polystyrene Foam Containers**: In a bid to reduce plastic waste,
MetLife Stadium has eliminated the use of polystyrene foam containers. That’s opting
    for more sustainable alternatives.
