Earth Day and Earth Month are approaching in April and water conservation is one of the biggest issues in communities across the country – from drought in the West to water-related energy costs in the East.

A group of national organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Forest Service, National League of Cities, Toyota, and the Wyland Foundation are coordinating the 2014 National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation from April 1-30, 2014.

In two years, the “Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation” has had participants from over 1000 cities with mayors involved from cities including: Atlanta, Seattle, Denver, San Diego, Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington DC.

By making a series of online pledges to save water, energy, and reduce waste, residents are entered into raffles that includes hundreds of eco-friendly prizes and a Toyota Prius c hybrid car.

Residents across the US can go to: www.MyWaterPledge.com where they can sign up and learn how to conserve water and energy.
