Thomas Place Orland Park Achieves Rare Designations

ENERGY STAR® for Multifamily High Rise and Enterprise Green Communities Award

Naperville, Ill. (April 7, 2014) — Ryan Companies US, Inc., with its joint venture development partners Jim Bergman and Providence Life Services, has announced that Thomas Place Orland Park, a $22-million, 80-unit, affordable senior apartment community, has achieved two distinctive sustainable designations: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® for Multifamily High Rise—the first in Illinois; and the Enterprise Green Communities Award—only the sixth in Illinois—as certified by Enterprise because of its healthy and efficient measures for housing.

Factors that contributed to achieving these designations include the conservation of water through efficient fixtures and irrigation; the use of low-Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) paints and finishes, which results in improved interior air quality; and the recycling of a majority of construction waste.

These achievements demonstrate Ryan’s dedication to designing and building energy efficient multi-family high rise buildings. Residents living in the 138,000-square-foot, four-story building will benefit from lower utility bills as well as better construction quality, durability and comfort.

“Ryan has long been committed to sustainable design and construction,” said Dan Walsh, Vice President of Development for Ryan’s Great Lakes Region. “We are extremely proud to be involved in another project where, in addition to extending housing opportunities to seniors with limited incomes, energy efficiency and sustainability were key design goals.”
