In a new collaboration with PBS Kids, the Green Living Guy will show ways to educate our children about going green. Here’s the first.

Encourage students to take an interest in their environment!

PBS kids

After participating in a biodiversity scavenger hunt, have children collate what they discovered in a field journal.

Lesson summary

In this lesson from PBS Kids, students learn about habitats and biodiversity by collecting data about the plants and animals that live in their community and by working together to create a nature guide for their neighborhood.

First, they watch an animated video that models science process skills such as making observations and recording data, and then they practice these skills in a related outdoor activity.

Students then explore the biodiversity near their school by participating in a biodiversity scavenger hunt.

Finally, students work together to identify some of the plants and animals they found during the scavenger.

Conclusion

Check out the surprise in this PBS Kids episode on how to save money and make environmentally friendly choices. It’s a lovely, lively and engaging piece for kids ages 3 to 6 and their parents.
