# IBEROSTAR Hotels Join Earth Hour Initiative

100 hotels around the world from IBEROSTAR will switch off their lights on Saturday,
March 28 for 60 minutes. This is to mark ‘Earth Hour’, the world’s largest grassroots
campaign that seeks to raise global awareness around the need to protect the environment.

Organized by the [World Wildlife Fund](https://greenlivingguy.com/2018/03/belize-tourism-board-launches-sister-reef-project-to-benefit-world-wildlife-fund/)(
WWF) around the slogan ‘**Turn**** off the light, turn on the Earth’, **‘Earth Hour’
is in its 9th year. We are now [talking](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/10/ford-and-the-green-living-guy-talk-smart-electrification-technology-for-the-green-cities-trend-video/)
about more than 7,000 towns and cities in 160 countries. They will [switch off their lights](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/09/switch-lighting-led-green-lighting-company-says-dump-old-bulbs-plus-cfl/)
on March 28 at 8:30 p.m. local time to support the initiative.

**IBEROSTAR ****Hotels**** & Resorts** is excited to be [part of this initiative](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/11/nyserda-adds-one-month-deadline-for-36-4-million-in-funding-as-part-of-ny-sun-initiative/).
Especially to play an active role in raising awareness of the campaign and [fighting climate change](https://greenlivingguy.com/2021/04/fighting-climate-change-how-positive-impact/).
The company has taken part in previous editions. So that’s turning off the [lights at its hotels](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/12/ge-lighting-hotel-project-cuts-costs-significantly/)
in Mexico, Brazil and the Dominican Republic. However, this year will be the first
time it has turned the [initiative into a global](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/05/c40-cities-leading-sustainability-initiatives-globally/)
activity. As part of the campaign, guests and employees will receive full details
about the initiative_._
