Green Business Community Solar Helps Woodstock Residents, Business Owners ‘Declare Energy Independence’ on July 1st
Solarize Signs Up Woodstock & Rosendale for Ulster County “Green Hubs” to Receive Time-Limited Solar Installation Discounts
To celebrate July 4th aka Independence Day and promote new financial incentives for New Yorkers looking to go solar, the towns of Woodstock and Rosendale signed up for Solarize Hudson Valley where signing up gets discounted for affordable solar power. Solarize campaigns are part of New York’s Community Solar initiatives.
The solarize campaign officially begins July 1st, with a launch event and workshop on July 9. Solarize representatives will attend local events throughout the summer, starting with the Woodstock Farm Festival and Library Fair.
According to local coordinator Kirk Ritchey, “We in Woodstock have studied this program in depth and could not be more pleased to be chosen. Our town has been an early mover with renewable energy on public buildings, so it is timely to bring the opportunity to our residents and businesses. For us, it’s a powerful way of declaring our energy independence.”
The time-limited group purchasing discounts up to 15 percent and more are available through November 15, 2015. The program benefits businesses and homeowners who choose to go solar, by reducing the “soft costs” of marketing while bringing communities together with pre-qualified installation firms and high quality educational programming.
Led by Sustainable Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountainkeeper, the initiative is part of Mountainkeeper’s statewide RenewableNY initiative. The three-year effort is funded in the Hudson Valley and Southern Tier by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA).
Kingston and other “green hub” communities of Rosendale-Woodstock, Warwick-Goshen, and Beacon are in so far.
New York’s now Third in US for new solar capacity during the first quarter of 2015.
New York trailed only California and Nevada in Q1, according to the recently released U.S. Solar Market Insight Report compiled by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
