Holy green roof alert! Kankakee, Illinois-based Riverside Medical Center, www.RiversideMC.net, named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals four years in a row by Thomson Reuters.  So they unveiled the installation of a large eco-friendly Vegetative Living Green Roof System. Consequently in celebration of the hospital’s commitment to environmental stewardship. All in the hospital’s East Tower. The planting system and vegetation on the living roofs act as insulation. Therefore it reduces heating and cooling costs by as much as 20%. Consequently, the installation of this green roof at Riverside Medical Center is more than just a green room. It provides patients, visitors and employees with an ever changing landscape canvas. All atop a rooftop space that was previously barren.

The living green roofs, that constitute the complete Vegetative Living Green Roof System. They are nestled in the hospital’s new East Tower. This is the largest addition in the history of the hospital with 160,000 square feet of new space. Space which includes 12 newly designed, highly advanced operating rooms. As well as seven richly appointed labor, delivery and recovery rooms, one dedicated C-section operating room. In addition, 18 new high-tech private ICU rooms, 23 family centered private rooms, and additional support space. This Vegetative Living Green Roof System was designed and installed by Ambius, http://www.ambius.com, a division of Rentokil Initial plc (LSE: RTO), the leading provider of interior landscaping solutions.

In conclusion, Riverside Medical Center is committed to the best possible care of  patients abs to help take care of the planet and reduce our carbon footprint. That came from Phillip M. Kambic, President and CEO of Riverside Medical Center. He added that this Green Roof was designed to help make a positive difference today. As well as for future generations. Patients, visitors and staff have an aesthetically pleasing view. That’s rather than that of an unappealing white roof.  Kambic then points out that several research studies have indicated that a natural view plays an important role in improving health.

The East Tower addition is built with many green materials including low VOC paint. Furthermore recycled flooring content, renewable resource flooring, urea & formaldehyde free adhesives and super efficient low E glass. Low E glass that is heat resistant white TPO roofing. Finally with occupancy sensors for reduced energy consumption, and Energy Star rated appliances.

In conclusion, Riverside Medical Center’s living green roof is an attractive biological alternative to a dead roof.
