Bring your old rechargeable batteries to your local Staples for free recycling. All collected batteries are also responsibly recycled by Call2Recycle.
Staples accepts and redeems if eligible for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd). As well as Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), and Nickel Zinc (Ni-ZN) batteries that are 11 pounds or less.

Moreover they also cannot accept single-use alkaline or lithium batteries or automotive/wet-cell batteries.

Purpose

Local governments and nonprofits have made it easy for consumers to recycle. Recycle or dispose of household goods like cell phones, cardboard boxes, batteries, and rubber tires.
