Recently I had the opportunity to join Catskill Mountainkeeper, Southern Tier Solar Works and Solarize Hudson Valley for the event called Taste of the Catskills.

The event was located in Delhi, NY on a beautiful farm. I was fortunate enough to be test driving the 2015 Lexus NX 300h Hybrid Electric Car.  Stay tuned for that review!

More on the Event

The Taste of the Catskills Festival is a family-friendly event that showcases the food, beer, crafts, and wine of our region. With a variety of vendors including farmers, value-added food producers, and restaurants, attendees learn how food travels from farm to fork during a fun-filled autumn weekend on the grounds of Maple Shade Farm, a family-run farm in Delhi.

In addition, the event on Saturday culminates with a harvest dinner paired with craft beer, prepared entirely from local ingredients. Weather permitting, there will be a bonfire during the day.

Lexus NX hybrid

It was a treat to say the least. The luxury of the all-leather, hands free, smooth riding hybrid made 36-38 MPG the norm on this Sport Utility Vehicle.

Sussie Essman

Catskill Mountainkeeper was able to get the hilarious actress and comedian Susie Essman (Curb Your Enthusiasm) — as they honored the Woodstock Land Conservancy with the 2015 “Keeper of the Catskills” award.

There was a lot of talk about fracking and its impact on the Hudson Valley. Below is a map of the fracked locations in New York.

The Conservancy was being honored this year as an environmental hero for its outstanding work to protect and preserve the Ulster County Catskills.  Suzie was amazing in her presentation.

Food Was Amazing

Besides that there was the Best Burger Ever at the Mountainkeeper booth where Chef Rob Rayevsky of the amazing Rolling River Cafe in Parksville.  For he prepared delicious hamburgers—made from local grass-fed beef. (main food tent, both days)

This year the festival also featured amazing food from hundreds of local farmers, artisanal food producers, and restaurants; craft beer and wine produced in the region. There were be games and other activities for kids, local crafts and great live music for everyone to enjoy.

Catskill Park

In conclusion, Catskill Mountainkeeper screened their award-winning short documentary “Catskill Park,” and hosted a variety of workshops. There was an event on cutting energy costs through energy efficiency, the Solarize program and electric transportation for your home.  I spoke about electric and plugin hybrid cars connecting to solar for the perfect marriage per se. Great conversation and I also registered people to sign up for the Solarize program I’m part of. Helping the Southern Tier and Hudson Valley get people to sign up for solar always makes my day!

I can’t thank John, Mary and Ramsay Adams plus the entire Catskill Mountainkeeper team (Betta, Katherine, Beth and Adam Flint from Southern Tier Solar Works plus all the others I met in Delhi)
