## Test Drive Review: 2015 Lexus NX 300h Hybrid Electric SUV

The 2015 Lexus NX 300h hybrid stands out as an impressive option for drivers who
want luxury, utility, and fuel efficiency in one stylish package. During testing,
this compact crossover delivered a smooth, refined ride. It also offers the eco-
friendly benefits of hybrid technology.

Powered by [Lexus’s proven Hybrid Drive](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/12/lexus-tx550h-direct4-2026-test-drive-results/)
system, the NX 300h combines a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor.
This setup delivers a total system output of around 194 horsepower, providing confident
acceleration for city and highway driving. Moreover, it achieved an EPA-estimated
36 mpg on ECO Mode. That’s making it one of the more efficient luxury SUVs in its
class. My FAVORITE mode was [EV MODE](https://www.lexus.com/models/NX-hybrid/technology)!!

### Comfort, Design, and Driving Experience

Inside, the NX 300h features the high-quality materials and craftsmanship you’d
expect from Lexus. The cabin is well-appointed with soft-touch surfaces, premium
trim, and supportive seats. The rear seats fold easily to expand cargo space, offering
practical utility for families or weekend adventures.

On the road, the hybrid system operates quietly and seamlessly. Transitions between
electric and gasoline power are barely noticeable. Additionally, the ride quality
feels composed even on rough roads. The steering is responsive, delivering the polished
[driving dynamics Lexus](https://greenlivingguy.com/2025/09/lexus-gx-550-overtrail-2025-test-drive-review/)
is known for.

Standard features include a dual-zone automatic climate system, a premium sound
system, Bluetooth connectivity, and available navigation. Moreover, advanced safety
features like blind spot monitoring and a pre-collision system add peace of mind.

### Hybrid Advantages and Real-World Performance

The hybrid powertrain really shines in urban driving. Stop-and-go traffic lets the
electric motor handle low-speed movement, cutting fuel consumption and emissions.
Regenerative braking helps recharge the battery without driver effort, making the
system efficient and convenient.

During my test drive, I averaged over 32 mpg with mixed city and highway driving—
solid numbers for a luxury SUV with all-wheel-drive capability. This impressive
fuel efficiency allowed me to feel more confident during my daily commute. I also
enjoyed it on longer road trips, knowing that I wouldn’t have to stop frequently
for gas. The luxurious feel of the interior complemented the smooth ride, making
every journey enjoyable. The combination of power and efficiency in this vehicle
showcases the remarkable engineering. It ensures a high-performing SUV that meets
demands of both style and substance, ensuring drivers can enjoy the refinement without
sacrificing practicality.

This makes the NX 300h a smart choice for buyers who want to reduce fuel costs without
sacrificing style, features, or Lexus-level comfort.

## Why Choose the NX 300h?

The 2015 Lexus NX 300h hybrid brings together luxury, versatility, and environmental
responsibility. It appeals to drivers who want the prestige of a Lexus. They also
seek the practicality of an SUV and the fuel savings of a hybrid.

With attractive design, comfortable interiors, and strong efficiency, it shows you
don’t have to compromise to go green.

Reviewers say the 2015 [Lexus NX Hybrid’s](https://greenlivingguy.com/2026/03/lexus-nx-350h-f-sport-2026-test-drive-results/)
standard four-cylinder engine, electric motor, and automatic transmission don’t
make it feel particularly fast. Although, some say that it offers swift acceleration
from a stop. Despite this, the overall performance may not meet the expectations
of those seeking a more thrilling driving experience. However, the seamless integration
of the electric motor does provide a boost during initial acceleration. The hybrid’s
emphasis on fuel efficiency often leads to a different driving dynamic, prioritizing
a smooth and peaceful ride over sporty responsiveness. Many drivers appreciate how
the NX Hybrid combines luxury with practicality, making it an attractive option
for those who value comfort and eco-f

However, according to [Lexus](https://web.archive.org/web/20180304224104/http://www.lexus.com:80/models/NX-hybrid/performance),
this hybrid electric car comes with an “electric all-wheel drive system”. _This
features an additional electric motor to deliver instantaneous torque to the rear
wheels only when it’s required. With no friction loss or added fuel consumption
due to heavy mechanical components, the system can automatically help prevent wheelspin
when starting off, and is so innovative it can also adapt to the angle or condition
of the road._

The [Lexus NX hybrid](https://greenlivingguy.com/2023/08/toyota-c-hr-2024-fresh-take-on-small-crossovers/)
did slip a little but not as bad as expected. It could easily in the future get
over 40-50 MPG when they add a few more batteries to the hybrid pack. Furthermore,
it seems that this car has the ability in the future to get more efficient and maintain
its amazing performance. Therefore, it’s worth the investment and the time to consider.
Finally, it’s a fun ride because this is the first 35 plus MPG hybrid SUV. Stay
tuned for more from Lexus on this model the NX.
