With the launch of the Iris by Lowe’s 2.0 program for smart homes comes at a great time. Too many times I have been approached by security companies to use their alarm systems but the costs did not meet the quality. The products I received from Iris by Lowe’s shows that anyone can set up a reasonably priced alarm system: Anyone.
First, you go to a computer to install their smart home system which is like a modem; called the smart hub. Once connected and after you loggin to your account online it becomes immediately easy to sync the advanced sensors, alarms and smart plugs.
I like the idea that they gave me a home security system to start to promote and review their line of products.
According to the 2015 Smart Home Survey annually conducted by Iris by Lowe’s , 62 percent of adults claim security is the most beneficial reason to own smart home devices.
“Many of our customers have been interested in the added peace of mind of 24/7 protection with live professionals available to help if problems occur, but only if it was as affordable and flexible as Iris is today,” said Mick Koster, vice president and general manager of Iris Home Systems. “By providing customers with Iris’ easy-to-install, wireless DIY system combined with professional monitoring capabilities they can trust and afford, we are offering the most all-inclusive smart home solution available at the best value for both homeowners and renters alike.
Whether our customers self-monitor or use our new professionally monitored service, Iris is the smart home system that evolves with you as your life changes and helps make your life easier.”
As Navigant Research recently reported, advanced sensors have a critical role to play in transforming places into intelligent buildings. The sensors were placed near the fireplace and also on top of the window sills so if anyone breaks in while I am out, these sensors will trigger the alarm. As in this case, the sensor is component of the Smart Home, connected to the smart hub and alarm.
After receiving these products by Lowe’s for promotional use and review, I can say that these are an impressive alternative to the traditional alarm companies. For only $20 a month my house is protected and smarter and I can control it from a smart phone app: not bad at all! Frankly, it seems that Iris by Lowe’s has come out of the traditional box store and into the Smart Home world with a strong step. All other alarm companies need to frankly wake up and smell the coffee being served by Iris by Lowe’s . I’m not just saying this, I mean it.
Current devices that will be monitored in my house include: Iris contact sensors, Iris motion sensors, Iris keypads, Utilitech glass break sensors. Most of the monitored security devices are required to be up and running so I don’t have any false alarms. The Iris Security Pack is ($99.99) and Iris Smart Hub ($59.99).
It’s really great to finally have a real deal smart home solution. It was simple, seem less and yes the alarm is powerfully loud to scare an intruder. Shortly thereafter, I got an automated phone call that the alarm was been triggered.
Next story will be about the Smart plug. There’s a story to do on that alone!
