BMW Group Launches Car Sharing Service “ReachNow” in Seattle

ReachNow will be Headquartered in Seattle with Plans to Expand to 10 Cities Across North America.

Seattle, Wash. – April 8, 2016… Following a successful pilot program, BMW Group today announced the launch of ReachNow, a free-floating premium car sharing service, at a press conference held in conjunction with the city of Seattle. In addition to debuting the ReachNow car sharing service in Seattle, BMW Group Member of the Board Peter Schwarzenbauer also announced the establishment of ReachNow’s North American headquarters in the city and its plans to expand the service to three additional cities in 2016 – with the intention of servicing 10 North American cities. ReachNow is another example of the BMW Group’s continuing commitment to the development and expansion of sustainable urban mobility solutions.

ReachNow is designed to provide drivers with an experience that is as convenient as owning a car.

The user experience is premium, with fast registration and an almost instant approval process. I mean in two minutes or less. So it’s a first for any car sharing service. The initial fleet of 370 vehicles, including the BMW i3 all Electric car, the BMW 3 Series and the mild hybrid MINI Cooper, will be located on the streets of Seattle for immediate use. The service will expand to include Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in the next quarter.

To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
