Center for Sustainable Landscapes was Built to be One of the Greenest Buildings in the World

One year after Phipps’ Center for Sustainable Landscapes received the Living Building Certification, it has garnered several prestigious awards and is the only building in the world to achieve all four green building standards of excellence.

Pittsburgh, Pa. — Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens’ Center for Sustainable Landscapes (CSL) was built to be one of the greenest buildings in the world and was certified as a Living Building last year. Since then, the project has won multiple prestigious national and international awards. In March 2015, the CSL became the first and only project to attain the world’s four highest sustainable building certifications, achieving the Living Building Challenge certificationLiving Building Challenge certificationLEED ® PlatinumFour Stars Sustainable SITES Initiative ™ (SITES ™) and WELL Building Platinum project (pilot).

The building’s performance has earned it many awards, including the EPA’s Green Power Partner of the Year Award, the Beyond Green High Performance Buildings Award from the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council, an EBIE Award from the U.S. Green Building Council, an International Landscape Design award from the Association of Professional Landscape DesignersPennsylvania Resources Council’s Sustainability Leadership Award and more.
