With World Ocean Day, who better to remind us to protect our oceans than well-known
activists [Sir Richard Branson](https://greenlivingguy.com/2014/07/urgency-network-changing-the-world-through-online-community/)
and Adrian Grenier.

In an original[ HuffPost Rise video](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/world-ocean-day-richard-branson-adrian-grenier_n_57572811e4b07823f95190bb),
the businessman and actor have teamed up to explain how[ ocean contamination](https://greenlivingguy.com/2011/04/bp-commits-to-early-restoration-projects-along-gulf-coast/)
is threatening our food supply, wildlife and future generations. Thereby encouraging
viewers to show their appreciation for the ocean by using the hashtag #MakeASplash.

[⌊world ocean day Richard Branson⌉⌊world ocean day Richard Branson⌉[I mean clearly
it’s terrifying when you read the facts, commented Branson. For only 2% of the global
ocean is fully protected. Yet even though science tells us that at least 30% should
be safeguarded. Especially if we want to preserve it for the future.

So in honor of World Ocean Day, renowned activists [Sir Richard Branson](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/04/sir-richard-branson-supports-everglades-with-formula-e/)
and Adrian Grenier have joined forces. Especially to raise awareness about the [threats posed by ocean](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/10/oceans-bowermaster-exploring-the-threats-to-our-seas/)
contamination. Through their collaboration, they aim to emphasize the importance
of protecting our oceans to safeguard our food supply, wildlife, and [future generations](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/01/oceana-arctic-ocean-plan-aims-for-sustainable-seas/).
Branson and Grenier advocate for greater ocean protection. Especially as currently
only 2% of the global ocean is fully protected despite scientific recommendations
that at least 30% should be safeguarded. They also highlight the vital role of the
ocean in providing essential resources such as food, jobs, relaxation, inspiration,
and oxygen. That’s with the ocean being the source of 50% of our oxygen. In addition
to their awareness-raising efforts, Branson is participating in a 3.3 kilometer
swim and has challenged Grenier to join him, demonstrating their commitment to making
a difference.

### Ocean Comments by Adrian Grenier

Grenier adds, “The ocean should not be taken for granted. It should be nurtured.
It gives us so many things, like food, jobs, relaxation, inspiration. But it gives
us one thing that we can’t see, but is perhaps the most important of them all –
oxygen. 50% of our oxygen comes from the ocean.”

#### Garnering Ocean Day Awareness

Their involvement doesn’t stop there. Branson is participating in a 3.3 kilometer
swim on the coast of Italy to raise awareness — and he’s challenging Grenier to
join him. Unphased by the challenge, Greiner defiantly replies, **_“Together we
can make a difference. We need your help. So yes, Richard, I accept your challenge.”_**
