Sustainable or greener considerations drive or influence the buying decisions of
many of today’s [consumers](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/08/eco-labels-overwhelming-business-plus-consumers/).
However, it’s not always easy to understand the social and environmental benefits
of a particular purchase. So how can we make this easier? Is there a way to be mindlessly
greener?

### **Many companies realize the value of using recycled and recyclable materials in their products. Everyday items, like the paper towel, tissue and even toilet paper are now greener than ever, and you are already using them in your everyday life.**

**Cascades**[ Away-from-Home](https://www.pro.cascades.com/en/) category aligns
under the company’s Tissue Group division. That which is the category leader in
Canada and fifth largest producer in the United States. Cascades converts and markets
tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fiber. In 2015, Cascades used
6.5X less water than its industry. The liters of water the company saved in that
year alone are equivalent to the amount of water needed for **3,027,721** **people
to take a 10 minutes shower every day for an entire year**.

By using Cascades paper products, consumers mindlessly made green choices.

However, the trend towards fragmentation. One which is made worse by a lack of consensus
over qualifying criteria. So it is clearly causing ever more opposition and frustration.

Furthermore, the fact is that initial momentum and high expectations of more than
30 years ago are giving way to different challenges. I mean ones that also must
urgently need to be addressed.

Major international companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Nestlé. Also Canon, Sara
Lee and E.ON. For they all took part in the study. Those which first sought to investigate
why firms adopt eco-labels.

Respondents listed brand-strengthening, addressing consumers’ sustainability demands.
Moreover and protecting against pressure-group attacks. That’s as key benefits of
the practice.

But they also expressed what the study called “substantial scepticism” over eco-
labels’ enduring credibility and the rigour of the criteria and certification procedures.
So let’s be sustainable or greener together.
