Using hot water to do laundry is equivalent to burning 182 gallons of gasoline per year, enough to get you from New York to Alaska.

But by using cold water for laundry you can eliminate 90 percent of the energy consumed by your washing machine. Do it for an entire year and you will get rid of 1,600 pounds of CO2.
