So let’s talk Silver Bullet technology. When I worked for NYSERDA, I took HVAC training. We talked about legionnaires diseases and how to treat it in HVAC cooling towers. This is so essential.
Denver, Colorado, August 2, 2016 – According to a recent report from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) came out. It was shout Legionnaires’ disease nearly quadrupled in the United States. That’s from 2000 to 2015. In addition most cases could have been prevented. I mean just with water treatment solutions. Water Treatment
From 2000 through 2014, reported cases of legionellosis increased. For that’s nearly fourfold. I mean from .42 to 1.62 cases per 100,000 persons. So the disease is contracted when a person breathes small droplets of water. Those that are contaminated with the bacteria Legionella.
So in 2015 through this year, about 5,000 Americans were diagnosed. Also more than 20 outbreaks were reported. About one in ten infected persons will die from the infection. Also, most cases require hospital care. Especially to make a full recovery.
Most facility owners and managers are familiar. That’s with ASHRAE 188-2015. All which mandates this issue. For that everyone with responsibility for centralized water systems-owners. Also corporate managers, operators and facility managers. For they must proactively reduce and prevent legionella growth.
Furthermore and according to the CDC:
Legionnaires’ disease requires treatment with antibiotics. Alsoand most cases of this illness can be treated successfully. Healthy people usually get better. Especially after being sick with Legionnaires’ disease. However, they often need care in the hospital.
People with Legionnaires’ disease have a serious type of pneumonia (lung infection). All which can be confirmed by chest x-ray.
About 1 out of every 10 people who gets sick with Legionnaires’ disease will die. All due to complications from their illness.1 For those who get Legionnaires’ disease during a stay in a healthcare facility. That’s about 1 out of every 4 will die.2

Cooling Towers
One common source of Legionella bacteria is cooling towers. I remember this from my HVAC training when working for NYSERDA. For the CDC cited that cooling towers must be properly maintained. Also they recently released a toolkit: Developing a Water Management Program to Reduce Legionella Growth. Also and Spread in Buildings: A Practical Guide to Implementing Standards. The CDC’s toolkit is a good resource. That’s for launching a more proactive water management program.
Building water systems and devices that might grow and spread Legionella. For they include :
- Showerheads and sink faucets
- Cooling towers (structures that contain water and a fan. All that are part of centralized air cooling system. Especially for buildings or industrial processes).
- Hot tubs
- Decorative fountains and water features
- Hot water tanks and heaters
- Large, complex plumbing systems
