Drive Electric Hudson Valley Launches

Drive Electric Hudson Valley: Consumer Empowerment Starts Here!

Will Your Next Car Be Electric?

Does it pay to go Solar and get an Electric Car at the same time?

This New Program Helps You Decide!

Drive Electric Hudson Valley

As New York steps up to the commitment to get over 750,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2025, Sustainable Hudson Valley is partnering with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) in 2016-17 to design and test an approach to empowering consumers and reducing dealer marketing costs through an education and outreach campaign that’s inspired by our successful Solarize program and the innovative work of our team.

Seth Leitman, Program Manager, educates consumers and blogs as Green Living Guy (.com). Seth helped to run the NYPA – TH!NK Clean Commute Program which leased 100 electric cars in the New York Metropolitan Area fifteen years ago and demonstrated the use of consumer incentives combined with education;

Hugo Jule, Outreach Associate, is an experienced bilingual energy outreach specialist with automotive engineering background;

David Dell, Ph.D. is a technology commercialization strategist and SHV board chairman.

Melissa Everett, Ph.D. is an award-winning author with deep experience in clean energy outreach.

We’re reaching out to technology and green living enthusiasts – and especially commuters – with diverse programming:

  • community workshops
  • special educational events at dealerships
  • commuter hub outreach tables and
  • Sign up for test drives at participating train stations
  • and a consistent media presence to engage curious consumers who are tired of pouring their dollars into the gas pump.

Electric cars are cost-competitive with conventional vehicles and are much less expensive to operate.

With battery prices falling disruptively, now is the time to get up to speed (pun intended) on EV options. If you want a workshop for your community group, contact!

Check us out at these events:

EV show at Sustainable Saturday Block Party, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m – 3 p.m. at the Ulster County Building, 244 Fair St. in Kingston with New Yorkers for Clean Power, statewide advocates.

Consumer Empowerment Workshop Saturday October 15, 2016, 11 – 12:30 pm at SUNY Ulster’s Kingston Center.

Watch for Hugo driving an E-Golf around Ulster County, thanks to VW of Kingston. Seth and Melissa in front of NYSERDA when contract was approved – yes we are over the moon about this project.

To understand what our community thinks about electric vehicles and what kind of learning experience they want, we have created a simple survey that we’re distributing in collaboration with Chronogram, Green Drinks and others.

The first 100 respondents over age 21 will be entered to win a case of Hudson Valley wines personally selected by SHV board chairman David Dell. Please respond by September 16.

Take the survey now!

Are You an EV Driver?

Car Geek?

Volunteer with us!

If you drive an electric vehicle and can talk intelligently about the cars & your choice, consider volunteering at one or more of our outreach events. We will be leafletting at train stations, park & rides, festivals – places that can get crowded. To help our staff handle the flow — and to diversify the cars and stories we offer — we invite Hudson Valley EV drivers to volunteer as “ambassadors” at events. You’ll bring your car, help us hand out flyers about the program, and just informally chat with people about why you are driving an EV. We can schedule you at a convenient time and place. Please send a short note to and we will follow up!
