Join the Town of Marbletown’s Environmental Conservation Committee. All for a two-part event focusing on sustainable energy. The first half of the program is a solar energy workshop, part of Solarize Rondout Valley. The shine part. a joint project of Solarize Hudson Valley and the ECCs of the towns of Marbletown, Rochester & Olive. Find out if solar energy is right for your home or small business. Come meet solar energy installers and receive 10% off of solar energy systems and installation. Also, sign up for free, at-home/business solar energy assessments and energy use audits.

The second half of the program includes the ribbon cutting by Town Supervisor Michael Warren for Marbletown’s new electric vehicle charging station. The drive part. It’s also located at the community center. This will be followed by presentations on electric vehicles by The Sierra Club and Drive Electric Hudson Valley. To spruce up New York City with even more greenery this spring, the New York Restoration Project has partnered with leading online charity auction site, charitybuzz.com, for the first annual Earth Day Auction. The Los Angeles City Council approved moving forward with the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program. The City of Los Angeles’ initiative, to be administered by the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will provide information on how to identify a green business and how businesses can adopt sustainable practices. One of the aims is to enable consumers to support firms that strive to protect the environment. The program was announced at a news conference at Ciudad restaurant. Green Seal, Inc., the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Green Globe and dineLA, a part of LA INC, The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau will join the LACCD in its work on this effort.
Joe Veilleux doesn’t view himself as an environmentalist, but he understands how his actions might paint him with that brush. “I’m not an environmentalist,” said Veilleux, general manager of the U.S. operations of natural health ingredient manufacturer Euromed. “I’m a pragmatist. There’s a difference. A lot of environmentalists have characterized their cause as one that pits them directly against corporate America. I’m part of corporate America, but I also recognize the debt I owe to the environment and want to do my fair share to protect it. In the long run, it’s just good for business and there are plenty of examples throughout history of how our environment is one of our most valuable natural resources.” Veilleux’s company is partner with the Everglades Foundation in a campaign dubbed Glade-iator (www.glade-iator.org), which is a model of the public-private partnership Veilleux believes is good for business.
