## ABB Canada lifted the curtain in May of this year on a $90 million project.

One to make its new 300,000 square foot corporate headquarters leaner, greener and
more capable of growth.

MONTREAL, Nov. 21, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ – Today ABB is pleased to announce that the
Canadian Green Building Council has certified Campus Montreal with the [LEED](https://greenlivingguy.com/2016/11/gaf-headquarters-building-awarded-the-worlds-first-resilient-design-credit-by-usgbc/)(
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver accreditation. This represents
an exceptional standard. Especially for a building that houses a range of energy-
intensive activities. One that includes manufacturing.

Located in the innovative Technoparc Montreal  For the building serves over 700
employees. It previously spread across six locations in Greater Montreal. The campus
houses research and development. Also manufacturing, assembly (RDA) and testing
for ABB’s energy value chain in Quebec.

> _“The ABB team has accomplished a significant environmental milestone,” says Nathalie
> Pilon, President of ABB in Canada. The LEED Silver certification recognizes the
> commitment we have made. Especially to contributing to a clean future for Canada.
> All by reducing our footprint today, and well into the future.”_

#### What is LEED

LEED is a rating system that is recognized as the international mark of excellence
for [green building](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/05/tile-or-porcelain-which-is-ok-to-use/)
in 150 countries. The rating system enables building owners and [operators](https://greenlivingguy.com/2015/01/jefferson-park-terrace-learn-about-the-sustainability/)
to go green. All to measure and benchmark building performance. Also impact on the
environment and ways to increase efficiencies.

In order to meet the selection criteria, ABB was required to meet a minimum of 40
points. So Campus Montreal scored a 54. Each point, responded to a number of requirements.
Those that covers every aspect of a sustainable design. For that’s including,[ energy](https://greenlivingguy.com/2022/08/10-largest-wind-project-development-2022/)
performance of the site. Also the materials and resources used and the innovation
involved.

Some of ABB’s key [achievements recognized in the LEED certification](https://greenlivingguy.com/2012/04/uc-merced-achieves-gold-leed-certification-success/)
process include:

#### **Inside the structure:**

incorporating natural light throughout the entire building. Also including the RDA,
unlike most industrial buildings. Open concept flexible working spaces. Also green
garden certified furniture. In addition to ergonomic and height adjustable work
stations. Moreover eleven green walls, increased [recycling](https://greenlivingguy.com/2020/03/infographic-on-waste-plus-recycling-disposal-methods/)
capabilities, including shared compost and garbage bins. Finally low consumption
toilets, efficient heating and cooling including the re circulation of over 2 megawatts
of heat generated through testing activities in the RDA back into the building,
and efficient LED motion detection lighting in most of the structure.

**Outside the structure:** the installation of three green roofs and a white roof(
to reduce the absorption of heat) on the main structure, EV charging stations, bike
racks for employees and visitors and a preferred parking program for carpooling
and hybrid vehicles.

> **_“We wish to thank all of our professionals and team leaders who contributed
> to the Base Building and Tenant Improvement work that has enabled us to achieve
> this designation,” says Domenic Fabiano, Vice President, Business Development
> and Pre-Construction, Broccolini Ownership Group. “Our collaborative efforts and
> commitment to deliver a landmark project are being recognized. We are confident
> that ABB will benefit from a viable and sustainable campus in the years ahead.”_**
